The South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS) is proud to announce that the 54th Annual SASAS Congress will take place on 03 – 05 July 2024 at the East London Convention Centre, East London, a city on the Indian Ocean, in South Africa’s Eastern Cape.


Theme: Animal Science and the Environmentally Stressed Production Animal

The organisers deemed this to be an appropriate theme taking into account the ever changing landscape for animal production and especially the associated changing climatic conditions. The aim of the congress is to highlight the different disciplines covered by the field of animal science as well as closely related disciplines in other fields and their relevance to the environmentally stressed production animal. Traditional animal science disciplines such as Genetics, Physiology and Nutrition combined with Health/Animal Welfare, Grazing Resource, Economics and the Production Environment will be addressed by a host of local and international speakers. An in depth discussion on animal welfare will form part of the congress and this relevant topic will also be dealt with during an interesting student debate and panel discussion led by internationally recognised and well respected experts.

Delegates can look forward to an informative/interesting congress. The invited talks will be accompanied by short papers and posters from scientists and post graduate students on interesting and relevant topics regarding the current and ever changing animal production environment. It will not be all science as delegates can look forward to social events with some local entertainment by the seaside. The SASAS congress still offers the best value for money with CPD points on offer.
